Can Brexit lawfully remove my EU citizenship?

Negotiations between the EU and the UK are, so it seems to me, proceeding on the implicit basis that UK citizens (who are at present also EU citizens) will lose their EU citizenship on the withdrawal date. The basis in law for the assumed removal of my EU citizenship is unclear. At least it is unclear to me. My EU citizenship was bestowed on me as a result of Article 9 of the Treaty on European Union. Article 50 provides for various matters which relate to the status of a Member State which wishes to withdraw but says nothing about the effect on the EU citizenship of nationals of that Member State after withdrawal. EU citizenship, so it seems to me, is an individual right which I and tens of millions of other UK citizens enjoy. Can the EU lawfully remove that individual right? If so, on what basis in EU Law can the EU do so? Can anyone point me to any point of EU Law which sheds light on this question?
